What If Your Trunnion Bars Are Different Lengths?

How to line up to a container when your trunnion bars don't match side to side.

Trunnion Bar Length Variations and Alignment Tips

Trunnion bars don't always match up evenly side to side, and that mismatch can make lining up to a metal rear-load dumpster harder than it needs to be when you're running Johnny Jaws on a front-load truck. In this clip, Joe walks drivers through how to handle different trunnion bar lengths, why painting the ends of the bars can make alignment easier to spot from the cab, and why you shouldn't dump a load that's caught off even a little bit.

A couple of runs and it becomes second nature, even when the bars aren't perfectly matched.

00:00 Make sure that's in there. But some of our trunnion bars are longer. Yeah, yeah, we got the

00:05 same problem. So some of the bars are just a little too long. Because, you know, I gave you that

00:09 tip of, yeah, line it up right here, right? And then it should lock in. But some of them are longer,

00:14 yeah, on one side. And as we had discussed, one side is longer than the other side. You know,

00:21 because we've had some that it's like, it's noticeably different how far off you have. It kind of

00:26 looks weird pulling into the container to be able to hook up to it. So when you come in though,

00:32 and you know, like that one, the first one we did, you lock this side without. Would it be easier

00:37 for you if we painted the ends of them so that you could see that they're in here? Like the end of

00:42 the trunnion bar? Maybe at the beginning, but I think it's... Once you catch on, you'll be fine?

00:47 Yeah, just a couple of them first. Plus maybe when I do it myself, then I can just probably

00:53 get out and push it in. Yeah, yeah. Well, not only that, but it caught here, so it was. I wouldn't

01:00 recommend dumping it like that, but at least you can see that it's off a little bit. Yeah, well that's

01:04 what I mean. Once I do it by myself, I have time. I just get out. No, we're saying, I'm not. I wouldn't

01:09 recommend it. Don't dump it like that.
