Real-Time Coaching With a New Driver
Curious how a new driver handles Johnny Jaws on their first try? In this video, Joe Ruby walks a brand-new driver through the pickup procedure in real time: line up to the metal rear-load dumpster, hook into the trunnion bars, lock in, throw your airbag, rotate the forks even with the top of the container, then lift.
For a new driver, the Johnny Jaws fundamentals carry over from any front-load truck work: line up, lock in, lift. The piece specific to Johnny Jaws is getting the trunnion bars lined up clean before locking in, then rotating the forks even with the top of the dumpster before lifting. Joe walks the driver through each of those checkpoints.
Video Transcript:
00:02: On this, when he would hook up to that, once he would get it in the jaw, then we rotate the fork so the bottom of the fork is even with the top.
[Visual demonstration: the operator brings the front-load truck up to the dumpster, lines up to the trunnion bars, and the Johnny Jaws attachment grips the container.]
00:27: So the bottom of the fork would be even with the top of the dumpster. So you go in, you get it lined up, and get it locked in, throw your airbag, and then rotate your fork up to the top, and then take it up.
[Visual demonstration: the operator throws the airbag to lock the container in place, rotates the forks so they sit even with the top of the dumpster, and lifts the container up to dump.]
